Men’s issues

Too often, men are described as non-emotional, unable to express themselves, closed off and/or simply unable to provide empathy to others. This is far from the truth. Not only does society still stigmatize and pathologize men who seemingly lacking the ability to express themselves, there is a lack of awareness and understanding of why some forms of expression may be more difficult for men. It is important to note that this isn’t true for all men, and it doesn’t look the same for all men. Importantly, the reasons behind these difficulties are more complex than a simple male/female binary.

Emotional expression can take many forms and isn’t binary, although we often claim it to be. The way we are or aren’t able to express our emotions and feelings is highly influenced by our earliest experiences and relationships, as well as systems and society at large. Making space for individual needs when it comes to expressing themselves and not forcing vulnerability may allow for individuals to take a risk when it comes to exploring their inner world. If you feel you are having difficulties with emotional expression, communicating your feelings, intimacy struggles, masculinity, body image and/or self worth, we’re here to help you in gaining a deeper understanding of yourself and in improving your relationships with others.
