Anxiety

Anxiety can make us feel paralyzed or constantly force us to jump into action. It often creates a deep sense of urgency making it hard to slow down. It can feel overwhelming and overpowering and can significantly impact our lives with ourselves and others. Anxiety often leads us to avoid whatever is anxiety-inducing and/or desperately grasp for control of what is uncontrollable. Both the uncertainty and the unknown is hard to tolerate for a lot of us, and to “create certainty” we often find ourselves in constant agony. We try to have answers for every “what if’ scenario and find ourselves in a loop of reoccurring thoughts. We often find ways to manage our anxiety on our own; however, the need to tolerate our existence that includes both uncertainty and a reality that is ever-changing is difficult to face alone.

We are here to help you identify the origins of your anxiety and support you in finding ways to relate to anxiety differently. Making space for anxiety to exist while decreasing the power it has over you will often lead to relief. We will support you in finding ways to manage anxiety differently through increased awareness and understanding. We’ll also introduce you to coping skills that will help you manage anxiety differently.

Anxiety looks different for everyone. However, common symptoms of include:

  • Physical symptoms such as increased heart rate, trembling, sweating, upset stomach

  • Frequent thoughts involving worry or fear

  • Avoidance of people, places or activities due to fear

  • Sleeping difficulties

  • Difficulty concentrating

  • Irritability
